Over 200 dedicated volunteers spend thousands of hours every year serving the AWL in many diverse ways. Day in and day out, it’s your passion and commitment that makes all we do possible. As an all volunteer organization, we invite you to become part of our team.

These volunteers care for the dogs by making Kongs for enrichment, brushing them, playing & doing other enrichment activities with them. They also feed the dogs their afternoon food and clean the food bowls.

Cat care workers come in twice a day, either morning or the afternoon shift, and provide thorough care for the cats including cleaning, brushing, socialization, and provide a snack.

Kitten care workers also come in twice a day - a morning shift and a late afternoon shift 7 days a week -to provide thorough care for the kittens including feeding, cleaning, and socialization.

Dog walkers come in twice a day, morning and afternoon, to walk the dogs and give them some lovin’.

GRs are the face of the AWL to the public. They are seasoned volunteers who greet and assist visitors, plus answer phone inquiries about AWL’s services.
AWL’s Feline and Canine Adoption Centers are part of the Village Animal Shelter and Animal Control. It is the temporary home for many of our adoptable pets who are waiting for their forever home. AWL volunteers are crucial in the care and socialization of our cats and dogs who have been vetted, sterilized, and deemed adoptable. Various teams work to welcome owners completing intake paperwork through final recovery after surgery.

We have one major fundraising event each year and we are always looking for volunteers that can help plan the event or help out the night of the event.

Volunteers write thank you letters to donors and send cards to supporters; schedulers contact available volunteers via email to maintain the monthly calendar; Facebook editors post available pets and Happy Tails of adoptions; Volunteers send lost pet email alerts while others help recycle used printer inkjet cartridges.
